The Story Behind Attiéké
Attiéké is a beloved West African cassava dish, traditionally prepared in Côte d’Ivoire and enjoyed across the region. Light and slightly tangy, it is often paired with grilled or fried fish, fresh vegetables, and bold sauces.
This dish reflects coastal cooking at its finest: crisp fish, sweet plantains, sharp onion sauce, and cooling cucumber salad. Each element balances the next.

Attiéké with Fish and Plantain Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Fish Marinade
Blend garlic, cilantro, and parsley. Transfer to a bowl and mix with vinegar, mustard, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and Maggi if using.
Step 2: Season the Fish
Make cuts along both sides of the cleaned fish. Season and stuff thoroughly with the marinade.
Step 3: Fry the Fish
Heat oil in a pan and fry the fish until golden and crispy on the outside, cooking evenly on both sides.
Step 4: Prepare the Plantains
Peel and slice ripe plantains. Lightly salt them. Fry in hot oil in small batches until golden. Drain on paper towels.
Step 5: Prepare the Attiéké
If frozen, microwave until warmed and crumbly, checking regularly. If boxed, measure equal parts attiéké and water, microwave, and fluff with a fork.
Step 6: Make the Onion Sauce
Sauté sliced onion, red pepper, and crushed garlic in lightly oiled pan. Add mustard, vinegar, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and Maggi. Cook until softened.
Step 7: Prepare the Cucumber Salad
Combine diced cucumber, tomato, and onion. Add oil, vinegar, mustard, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and Maggi. Mix and adjust seasoning.
Step 8: Assemble
Serve attiéké as the base, topped or accompanied by fried fish, plantains, onion sauce, and cucumber salad.
